I made a cd. I have Laserscribe software that allows me to burn labels as well. These cd’s were/are initially intended for Steve, whose room I used to sit in, on an awkwardly smallish wooden chair, stare through the smoke at carpet listening to music. It was like we were studying for something and had to hear every part of the song. I still listen like that sometimes. This is my label. This is my cd. It is one half of a cd mix, one that I made with the focus on downer/slower songs. That….didn’t really happen. As it evolved bigger, happier songs came through, but there’s still a tonal element that stops it from going into crazy party mode halfway through. That’s Part II.
Track Listing:
  1. MGMT – Time to Pretend
  2. Vicious Vicious – Stay With Me Tonight
  3. Dr. Dog – Heart It Races
  4. Kanye West – Flashing Lights
  5. CSS – Music is My Hot, Hot Sex
  6. M.I.A. – Paper Planes
  7. Beirut – Sunday Smile
  8. Yeasayer – 2080
  9. Dosh – Um, Circles and Squares
  10. Sigur Ros – Staralfur
  11. Okkervil River – Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe
  12. Tegan and Sara – Nineteen
  13. Tokyo Police Club
  14. Editors – An End Has a Start
  15. Pinback – Walters
  16. Jason Isbell – Blue Dress
  17. Peter, Bjorn & John – Objects of My Affection

Snap! Holy shit its good.

It usually takes me some time of listening to the cd to tell what it means to me. I don’t think its always obvious why we choose certain things. I might be drawn to a singer’s voice and opt for a song for that reason, but when I go back and really listen to what they’re saying it tells a story of my life, or says something about how I’m feeling in general. Mixes are like that, time-stamps of a period in your life. It can be an obvious choice where I hear and understand the lyrics, some times relating to me while others I appreciate the word play. I don’t believe these choices are random. I’m not sure anything is.
