Yup, it’s that time again. I feel a bit farcical (what kind of word is that?) in this in that I haven’t been working at the DLR since August which means I haven’t been listening to the standard 6-8 hours of The Current in conjunction with B96, 93X, a little Radio K and a generous helping of coworker Keith’s sick KQRS addiction. Because of that I’ve only had an exposure of 2-3 hours a week, which means I’m behind. I’m starting to be one of those people who doesn’t know all the stupid band names, or the stories behind the stupid band names, or what I’m supposed to listen to. As a result, I’m renaming my list, “Best I can do for 2008,” because really, what did 2008 do for me?
The Cool Kids: The Bake Sale
DeVotchka: A Mad And Faithful Telling
Dosh: Wolves And Wishes
The Heavy: Great Vengeance and Furious Fire
The Hold Steady: Stay Positive
Kings Of Leon: Only By The Night
The Roots: Rising Down
Sigur Ros: Med Sud i Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust
TV On The Radio: Dear Science
I had to get rid of Moby and something else…apparently not really worth mentioning to get it down to ten. But I feel like if you bought these ten records you wouldn’t guaranteed like them, but you’d love at least a couple and kinda like the rest. AND I’m positive that I’m wrong about some of these. I’m sure there’s better records released this year. In truth, I hope so and I hope I find them. I don’t have time (patience) to do a breakdown record by record, but if I had to put one first it’d probably be Kings of Leon or the Devotchka record.
