I reread my blog about you, Barb Abney. I’m not ashamed, and I don’t necessarily regret it, but I think I came off a bit harsh. I should say by a bit I mean a lot.
You were hired because people, including those in charge of Minnesota Public Radio and The Current like you and thought you a good fit for the station and in the late morning shift. Doesn’t mean you deserve the wrath of an asshole, though. I feel the wrath can be explained in several ways, first being that you were right after the morning show which I abhorred above all other things at the station. It was never a good fit for the station. They were nice enough guys, and I don’t mind a little break from the monotony of the Decemberists and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but hokey folk music belongs to Garrison Keillor. On another station. So you were already working your way uphill. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t listen to the morning show. I turned it to another station with the condescending tones and the wise-cracking alpha male personality and the ditzy submissive female ‘dynamic’ long enough to let you get into the first couple songs before tuning in.
I had such a good feeling about the Current when it started. It was finally radio done right, coming in loud and clear. It’s not your fault that things are changing. You’re playing the playlist and some of what you want as well as trying to fit listener requests in. You are doing your job. It’s been a while and you’re still here so you must be doing something right. Just because the station has changed, is changing and I don’t like the direction doesn’t mean it is because of you.
I still don’t like your style, but I don’t think you deserve to be put down. I just think your radio station needs work and that I need to calm down sometimes. There needs to be something different in the third spot result when Googling your name.
PS: If anybody knows much about computers and can explain why I’m getting the infamous BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death (computer types love acronyms)) 2-3 times a week with this error reporting information, I’d be grateful. Unless it means replacing something that is expensive or very complicated. I’m broke and impatient, after all. Two bad things made worse by the other.
